1st November 2008 - Dia de los Muertos / All sAINT's Day
A warm welcome to the curious who have stumbled upon this page. For the first time, someone else has been put in charge of presenting this series of images and words from the not-quite-enigmatic Manzin. Many more features will pop up over the next weeks, but as this has already been months in the conceptual stage only to be changed at the very last minute, up is better than down.
The most unwieldy area is, of course, the portfolio which went through change after change in terms of category. Though Manzin is known for his re-creations (that's the term we arrived at after nixing impersonations because that implied live performance) of Marilyn Manson's various looks, there is a lot more recent work which is modeling only, especially theatrical modeling such as the House of Horrors group shoot and the excellent new work with SPRINGHEEL. So how would we do this? Split it up into modeling and Mansonesque? By era? By photographer? In the end, everything has been put together, then split up by photographer, including the oft-seen Manzin self-shot work which is about 90% costume tests, according to him. But there are also some delightfully macabre images which explore different moods rather nicely.
As of this writing, Manzin is in Hollywood while his site is launched, having flown out there to do some shooting with the excellent Melissa Rodwell, and to see Manson at the Halloween party he's hosting at the Roosevelt Hotel. (Manzin is dresssed as the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, hence the hastily snapped photo, left.) When he returns, he'll be able to work on his site-specific blog as well as bringing some fresh content from shoots with SPRINGHEEL, Bob Mussell and Melissa Rodwell. Stay tuned!
